Hey Eric,
What I tipically do is:
1. Load QWS.
2. Load up VST Host.
3. Go to your device menu, and select wave devices.
4. Choose your output device you wish to use by tabbing over to the output port combo box. I have my buffers set to 300 as well.
5. Hit enter to close that dialog.
6. Now, go into your device menu again, and select midi devices this time.
7. On the input device tab, select the midi port you want to use. I have out to midi oak 4 selected in this case.
8. Now, on the output tab, select the same port.
9. Hit enter, and when you load a VST, everything should work. You can test it by playing the virtual keyboard in QWS, (F11). If you still have an issue, feel free to write me off list and I'll try to help you. I'm very new to this as well. Good luck!

Subject: QWS List Help with configuring a vst.

I'm still very new at this, so apologies if I need to restate
something for the sake of clarity.
I'm in the process of configuring a vst for the first time with
VSTHost. So far I've installed the host, setup the default 8 ports to
run through QWS and Host, and set the buffer to 300 as instructed.

It's after this where I'm not sure. I'm never sure if more than one
input port is selected in midi devices, though I think they are. I
select the .dll file of the synth, but nothing seems to happen. The
article on the subject says there should be an MDS window with the
synth's title and information, but it's not appearing.

I'm guessing that either there's a problem with the input ports not
being configured correctly somehow, or I'm not actually selecting the
vst file. Though I'm pretty sure it's not the latter, the archive that
it comes in only has that one .dll file to select.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
