The Proteus VX softsynth has a lot of options -- there's some good drum and
bass stuff in it stock, but you can find all kinds of sound banks for it on
the web. It'll run in stand-alone mode if you use MIDI Yoke or you can use
VST Host and run it as a virtual instrument that way too. Note, however,
when building the INST file, that it uses the full range of MSB/LSB, unlike
most others, so the second bank is bank value 1, not 128, etc.
