Though Reaper is a full-blown DAW, you can use it to host DirectX, VST, or
even rewire, and use with QWS via virtual midi ports.
The setup process is more complex than with VSTHost, especially if you
want to use multiple synthesizers at once.
Perhaps one day when I have time, I will write up something on setting
this all up.
Time is a luxury lately.

What I'm learning about how these things interact and coexist is
amazing! The reason M.Y. didn't work is because my friend chose the
64-
bit-only VSTHost. No matter, Loop-MIDI is on its way.

A friend has a 37-note IRig controller which QWS sees. He's also
now
installed the one and only MIDI-Yoke Version 1.7, and VSTHost
for
64-bit systems. He's got the audio driver set up, but when he
goes
to the Devices / MIDI dialog, output tab, he only finds the IRig
controller, not any of the MIDI-Yoke ports. Any idea of what he
did
wrong?
