Why would you activate channel 11? Would that be used if you wanted SFX
kits in your stack?

If you want to use channel 10 for them, which is recommended, then you only
have a single bank you can use for them. The same applies for if you choose
to activate channel 11 using the GS command, though there's not much reason
to do this in most cases. You can, of course, also put them in other banks,
but you won't be able to access them from channel 10 that way and they'll
use polyphony from your regular sound allotment instead of the drum sound
allotment, if this matters for the particular synth you're using. (Some
still do this, others don't)
