ARC CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN PLANT ENERGY BIOLOGY This is an outstanding opportunity to be involved in an exciting international research initiative in a world-class research centre in a city with exceptional quality of life.

· Appointment to the end of 2008
· Salary range: Level A $43,486 - $59,012 (Minimum starting salary for appointee with PhD will be $54,976 p.a.) · Closing date: Friday, 26 January 2006

The ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology at The University of Western Australia includes four groups undertaking research into energy metabolism and organelle genomics in Arabidopsis. The Centre has state-of-the-art equipment for microarray, proteomics and metabolomics and major resources for plant genetics, imaging and computing.

Starch Genomics - Beta-Amylase Function (REF 1137) Applications are invited from researchers to work on the role of beta-amylases, beta-amylase-like proteins and maltose function. Studies will include genetic analysis, protein-protein interactions, enzyme regulation and metabolome profiling. A PhD in molecular genetics, biochemistry or related discipline is essential. Some assistance with relocation expenses (if applicable) may be negotiated. For further information visit the Centre website: http://www.plantenergy.uwa.edu.au/

or contact Professor Steven Smith on (08) 6488 4403 or email [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Starch Genomics - Starch Proteome Discovery (REF 1138) Applications are invited from researchers to work on the discovery of novel proteins involved in starch metabolism. Studies will include mutant isolation, protein-protein interactions, affinity purification, proteomics and mining of transcriptome and genome data.

Starch Genomics - Starch Molecular Genetics (REF 1139) Applications are invited from researchers to work on the genetic and transgenic analysis of starch metabolism. Studies will include genetic analysis of knock-out mutants, re-mutagenesis, transgenic modification, inducible gene _expression_, and _expression_ of foreign enzymes in Arabidopsis. A PhD in molecular genetics, biochemistry or related discipline is essential. Some assistance with relocation expenses (if

applicable) may be negotiated. For further information visit the Centre

Starch Genomics - Regulation Of Starch Metabolism (REF 1140) Applications are invited from researchers to work on environmental and physiological regulation of starch metabolism in Arabidopsis. Studies will include physiological, transcriptome and metabolome analysis of knock-out mutants in response to abiotic stress, mutagenesis to select novel mutants, and reporter gene analysis. A PhD in molecular genetics, biochemistry or related discipline is essential. Some assistance with relocation expenses (if applicable) may be negotiated.
