I think the extra comma has been there for a while, but c() has become more picky about missing args. (Another issue is that the actual manuals go walkabout in some binary distributions. E.g. FC6 has them in /usr/share/doc/R-2.4.0/ but the GUI looks for them in file.path(R.home("doc"), "manual"), which only has the HTML versions)
