There are many ways you could do this, some better than others. A key factor is which method of "cluster analysis" are you using? I'd suggest you read up about the clustering method you are using and how to select the number of clusters from the results - a good book on cluster analysis should help. Then come back to the list and ask us how do I do "method x to find the number of clusters in clustering method y using R?", if you haven't already worked it out by then, by using R's search tools when you know what you want to do. This is not a list for statistical help, but rather help with how to do things in R. And before you post again, please read the posting guide!
