Hi Uwe, The problem is most likely because the original poster doesn't have the latest version of plyr. I correctly declare this dependency in the DESCRIPTION (http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/reshape2/index.html), but unfortunately R doesn't seem to use this information at run time, generally creating many error reports of this nature.
