Hi Erik,

I try to find out whether Emacs/ESS is available on R repo. What is its
versiohn?

There is no R repository that distributes Emacs. Emacs and the ESS package (for Emacs) are not part of R. You choose your version of Emacs and get it from wherever that versions resides.

What are you trying to do?

Did you look at the arguments for
the first argument of ?available.packages ?

What did you expect "emacs" to do?

What is the correct syntax to check the available of a package on R repo?

available.packages("emacs", "OS_type=linux")
