Dear John and Stephen, As I recall, importing from Excel, Access, or dBase files works properly only under Windows, and consequently the menu item appears only in Windows systems. I frankly don't recall why this is the case, since the RODBC package is used. The code for reading these kinds of files was contributed by Matthieu Lesnoff, to whom I'm copying this response. Maybe he'll have a more complete answer.
