1) Please ask about R installation on the R-devel list: as the posting guide says

  Questions likely to prompt discussion unintelligible to
  non-programmers should go to to R-devel.

2) This is covered quite explicitly in the 'R Installation and Administration Manual'. Search for 'readline' there, and also make sure you have studied the section on installation on AIX (which also mentions this).

3) You always need to mention the version of R you are trying to install.
