Although I'm not sure what you're talking about with pop-up windows...

Weird, this is what I'm getting in either R 2.13.0 or R 2.12.0:

> x = zoo(1:5, as.Date('2001-01-01')+1:5)
> x[as.Date('2001-01-05')]
2001-01-05
         4
> x[as.Date('2001-01-05')] = 0
> x
Error in dimnames(x) <- dn :
  length of 'dimnames' [1] not equal to array extent
