If you did exactly as you describe, then something is indeed wrong:

  pnorm(-1.53,0,1)
  # [1] 0.06300836
  [R version 2.11.0 (2010-04-22)]

as you expected.

However:

  qnorm(0.05155075)
  [1] -1.63

so maybe you mistyped "1.63" instead of "1.53"?
