Hi,

you should be able to convert your date variables to integers (usually
viewed as the elapse between 1970/01/01 and today) by using date
conversion to integers:

TODAY="2020-05-22"
as.Date(TODAY)
[1] "2020-05-22"
> as.integer(as.Date(TODAY))
[1] 18404

Doing the same with your reference dates should do the job.
