I agree with Bill's advice, but if you want the easy way out, try dotplot.mtb in package plotrix. Jim Lemon's done the job for us.

R puts you in the driver seat and if necessary gives you the mechanic's tookkit so that you can tinker underneath the bonnet if need be. If the function you like isn't quite there, have a look at the code and adjust it.
