Assuming x_1 and x_2 mean two values, not subscripted values

   title(substitute(lambda[1]==x1*", "*lambda[2]==x2, list(x1=x1,x2=x2)))

In 1.8 you will be able to do

   title(bquote(lambda[1]==.(x1)*", "*lambda[2]==.(x2)))
