If you open up a Console window (go to Applications, then Utilities, then
select Console) you may get some more helpful error messages.
The problem may appear if you have installed libiconv (a tex associated package), see the Raqua-FAQ : http://cran.at.r-project.org/bin/macosx/RAqua-FAQ.html
