I am not sure that it is worthwhile at this point, but there is a GNOME based interface available under Linux. More information is available on page 16 of the R Administration Manual. Otherwise, I would strongly advise the use of ESS with either emacs or Xemacs under Linux. It has a bit of a learning curve, but as with R itself, you will wonder how you ever did without it.
