David, Version 14 of SPSS doesn't seem to have made any changes to the .sav file format. Therefore read.spss should work as it has. I haven't had any problems importing data files created in SPSS 14.0. Problems can arise when importing data files created by the SPSS Data Entry product (currently at version 4.0), and this is covered in the R Data Import/Export manual.
