Dear r-sig Ecology members,
I would like to share information about an upcoming online training course that
may be of interest to members of this community: Introduction to Analysing
Animal Movement with R

Dates: 16–18 February (online)

Course website: [ https://www.physalia-courses.org/courses-workshops/mve-r/ ](
https://www.physalia-courses.org/courses-workshops/mve-r/ )

This 3-day course provides an introduction to analysing animal movement data
using R. Participants will learn how to import, clean, and process movement
datasets, identify outliers, compute fundamental movement metrics such as step
lengths and directions, and conduct home-range analyses. The course concludes
with an introduction to describing movement patterns using statistical
distributions.

The course combines lectures and hands-on coding sessions designed for
participants with basic knowledge of R and RStudio, and some familiarity with
GIS concepts. Example datasets and code will be provided, and participants are
encouraged to bring their own movement data if available.

Topics include:

Importing and managing animal movement data

Detecting and handling erroneous GPS fixes

Calculating movement metrics: steps, turns, net squared displacement

Home-range analysis and common estimators

Working with data from multiple animals

Describing movement patterns using statistical distributions

For a deeper dive into animal movement ecology, we recommend the companion
course:
Habitat Selection of Animals from Telemetry Data with R

Dates: 20-23 April (online)

Course website: [ https://www.physalia-courses.org/courses-workshops/telemetry/
]( https://www.physalia-courses.org/courses-workshops/telemetry/ )
A follow-up course focusing on advanced techniques and detailed statistical
methods for analysing animal habitat selection using telemetry data.

Best regards,Carlo
