Hello,

This question is mostly for David W Pierce, whom I have emailed directly as
well.

I would like to confirm that the get.var.ncdf function within the ncdf
package automatically scales output data values if there is an embedded
scale factor within the ncdf file. I am reading in CRU TS 3.0 temperature
and precipitation climate data, and it seems that all output data values are
all correct values after applying the get.var.ncdf and then writing to
raster via writeRaster (from the raster package). The metadata for the CRU
data indicates a scale factor of 10, but I have not applied any conversion
factor manually. I have asked the manager of the CRU data, and he suspects
that many tools that read ncdf data automatically apply the scale factor.

If this is the case, perhaps documenting this automatic step would be
helpful for the users of netcdf data.

The output data values also come out the same when reading the files into
ArcMap, again, with no manual conversion factor applied.

Thanks,
Tom Kurkowski
