Re: Quick poll -- favorite GIS textbook?
I recently did some searching for a comprehensive textbook on GIS. I have
others, such as Burrough and McDonnell (1998), but I was curious to see if I
could find something more current. I was frustrated to find that most
current books are either very introductory, purely conceptual, or topic
specific (e.g. spatial statistics). Not much in the way of intermediary
(balanced) books seem to exist for GIS, except for perhaps Neteler and
Mitasova (2008) which is more of a GRASS manual. After much searching I
found Lo and Albert (2007, Concepts and Techniques of Geographic Information
Systems). In my opinion this text does a good job covering the varied range
of topics that have come to be synonymous with GIS.
