In R Is there a way to create a 3d distance over a terrain surface? I would
want to use a starting point (animal location) and get the distance to the
nearest geographic feature in a network (nearest road). In ArcGIS both the
PathDistance and Near3D get me close but are not exactly what I want. Before
programming something custom in GIS I thought I would look at R. I was
thinking that gdistance might be of help here but I am not seeing a strait
forward way to accomplish this task. Ultimately I will want to run this for
around 400,000 points. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks for your time. - Andy
