Hello Milani, Thank you very much for your e-mail. I was not aware of CmdStan and cmdstanr and will look into them. Meanwhile, I will continue using rstan 2.19.3.
Regarding Makevars, I am puzzled that now I have two Makevars files, both within the folder ~/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/4.0/Resources/library one sits in the folder RcppArmadillo/Skeleton and contains: ## With R 3.1.0 or later, you can uncomment the following line to tell R to ## enable compilation with C++11 (where available) ## ## Also, OpenMP support in Armadillo prefers C++11 support. However, for wider ## availability of the package we do not yet enforce this here. It is however ## recommended for client packages to set it. ## ## And with R 3.4.0, and RcppArmadillo 0.7.960.*, we turn C++11 on as OpenMP ## support within Armadillo prefers / requires it CXX_STD = CXX11 PKG_CXXFLAGS = $(SHLIB_OPENMP_CXXFLAGS) PKG_LIBS = $(SHLIB_OPENMP_CXXFLAGS) $(LAPACK_LIBS) $(BLAS_LIBS) $(FLIBS) the other, in folder RcppEigen/skeleton, has every line commented out: ## With Rcpp 0.11.0 and later, we no longer need to set PKG_LIBS as there is ## no user-facing library. The include path to headers is already set by R. #PKG_LIBS = ## With R 3.1.0 or later, you can uncomment the following line to tell R to ## enable compilation with C++11 (or even C++14) where available ## CXX_STD = CXX11 The Renviron file has a lot mor information. Since you tell me that none of these files are relevant for my problem now, I am inclined to forget abou them, but I am still curious as to what is their purpose.
