>From the Mac OS X page on CRAN: http://cran.r-project.org/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Universal R 2.11.0 for with R.app GUI 1.33 released on 2010/04/27 This binary distribution of R and the GUI supports PowerPC (32-bit) and Intel (32-bit and 64-bit) based Macs on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Only 32-bit is now built and supported for PPC. OS X 10.5 is always 64-bit. The issue is that 64-bit PPC software/compilers and Apple support are slowly disappearing as time goes on. Simon Urbanek and others that develop and maintain R for the Mac announced a while back that PPC64 support would end, as the PPC platform is becoming history. So, it's either compile R and packages from source in 64-bit mode yourself, or get a new Intel-based Mac.
