I just now also did (Mac OS X 10.6.3)

with result:

/usr/lib/libz.1.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version
1.2.3)
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current
version 125.0.1)
so things seem to be ok.
Something is indeed wrong with your X or something else.
