Hi all,

I have been experimenting with different methods for adding unsampled
species to a tree and I have a theoretical question regarding the function
add.random() in phytools.

It seems that the function adds new tips, one by one, by grafting a new
branch into a random location, with uniform probability for locations, and
then extending branches to the present for ultrametric trees.

My question is: what is the underlying branching model assumed by this
procedure? Will the trees generated be similar to pure birth trees? I would
appreciate any insight!
