You know, truth be told, I thought the squid was kind of lame the first time around. An overworked double-homage to horror comics & chthulu mythos. But then, I was bored by the whole Black Freighter sub-story. Only tolerated it as a necessary evil for the island sub-plot. (I stand ready to be excoriated for my lack of taste and reverence before the dogs of horror....do your wurst, squid-lovers...)
