And anyway, what about Linus Pauling, Bucky Fuller and Ed Wilson, off the top of my head -- all respected, respectful characters, productive well into later years and making significant contributions to the betterment of mankind. (And Wilson still going strong simultaneously on the fronts of evolutionary biology, civil public discourse, social theory and natural resource preservation.)
