Impressions:

So Campbell rejected *Nova* because he didn't think Americans were ready for
a black protagonist. But all the decidedly non-mainstream sexuality in
previous stories wasn't a problem. So some things *have* changed. [/sarcasm]

Re. Le Guin's rejection for *Left Hand of Darkness*: Interesting to see that
performance art had a home in the editorial suites of publishing houses. I
mean, writing a rejection letter in language that parallels the sin of which
you are accusing the writer? Genius.

*Forever War*: aside from brilliantly missing the main point of science
fiction (namely, that it's not really about the future), I learn that I've
probably not read the whole book after all since my copy was printed in the
'70s, and it wasn't printed in full form until the '90s. No wonder it seemed
so short.

*Animal Farm*: I'd have been sort of disappointed if they didn't censor
Orwell's preface about censorship.
