We had a terrific annual meeting last night. Lots of ideas were
discussed for the upcoming year. There was talk of focusing our
monthly meetings more on writing business (like "What are Agents for
in the Age of ePulbishing?") and of having more social events outside
of Barnes and Noble. There was talk about us having a "Who's hot?"
meeting at which we each pick a popular spec fic author to champion (I
call Ian McDonald).
It was suggested that we get more involved with young writers in the
community, perhaps pulling in area teachers and librarians for talks
or projects. There was an R-SPEC retreat suggested for this year which
would provide solitary writing time mixed with group activities.
Natisha showed us some of her newletters for RACWI. They are
beautifully laid-out with announcements about book releases, new
members, fun quotes, and letters from officers. We also had a spirited
discussion of possible roles that R-SPEC might play in the electronic
publishing world. After our second anthology is published, we might
also consider pulling together the Rochesterian's Annotated Guide to
Apocalypse, with handy survival tips gathered from spec fic.
The 2011 Board of Directors elected this year include the following
previous directors:
Craig DeLancey
Ruhan Zhao
Eric Scoles
Janice Carello
Alysse Kulikowski
David Henn
and myself (Alicia Henn)
We are pleased to have two new directors on the board this year, Alan
Vincent Michaels and Rob Tyler.
Welcome! We are looking forward to working with you both this coming
year.
The board will be meeting this coming Sunday to elect officers and
discuss in more detail how to accomplish our immediate as well as long-
term goals.
Alicia
