Sarah, in your case I'd call it "sui genre". Defining a genre for your
work is like trying to find a paper bag to hold an explosion.

It allows you to submit a "subgenre":

Yes, on the submission form, choose “other” and write in your subgenre.
I wonder if this is perilous. My only finished manuscript combines
genres...listed as
epic fantasy, science fiction, urban fantasy, horror, dystopia,
supernatural and YA.
I would call mine "dark comedy," "mystery," "feminist urban fantasy."
Hmmm.
A feminist mystery fantasy, darkly comic, with some horror elements?
Sheesh.

Story here, with FAQs:

Short version: Cattle call for 'finished, polished' manuscripts;
other than confirming receipt, they will only respond if they're
interested; if you hear nothing in 3 months, feel free to send
elsewhere.
When submissions are being accepted, 1-14 October, you'd submit
them here:
http://www.harpervoyagersubmissions.com/
(for now that just redirects to the guidelines page.)
