I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mitch, Alan and Guy for their excellent service on the Steering Committee: Their work has been more valuable and important than is publically known, and I am deeply grateful.
A comment on the election process: I think the general concept of having the community select the Steering Committee is good. I'm a bit worried that the process (at least as I currently understand it) will ultimately more or less independently select three people and throw them together. As we all know (even if we'd all like things to be different), some combinations of personalities work better together than others, and with only three people on the Steering Committee, it may be difficult to counterbalance bad chemistry. This subject came up briefly at the Scheme workshop, and I don't remember any workable solution coming up. I don't really know much about governance procedures to be able to suggest qualified changes to the process to address this problem. (Maybe candidates could secretly submit lists of people they think they'd have trouble working with, and this could somehow be factored into the process.) -- Regards, Mike _______________________________________________ r6rs-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.r6rs.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/r6rs-discuss
