As some of you have already noticed, the poll is now open for the Steering Committee election. The ballot can be downloaded from <http://www.r6rs.org/steering-committee/election/ballot.txt>.
There are 12 candidates running, and 129 registered voters. The candidates' statements can be found at <http://www.r6rs.org/steering-committee/election/nominees.html>, and the voters' statements can be found at <http://www.r6rs.org/steering-committee/election/electorate.html>. The poll closes at 12:00 GMT on February 23rd. If you are receiving this message, you are either a registered voter, a candidate, a subscriber to r6rs-discuss or a member of the current steering committee. (If you are both a voter and a subscriber to r6rs-discuss, you will get this message twice -- sorry about that...). With the exception of Will Clinger's message to r6rs-discuss sent yesterday, the candidates have so far confined their campaigning to drafting their statements. But there is no reason they should continue to be so quiet. We would like to encourage both the candidates and the electorate to use this election as an opportunity to discuss the broad future of Scheme and how the new Steering Committee can help set its direction. Such discussions will likely help the voters to decide whom to vote for. We encourage everyone to use r6rs-discuss as a forum for these activities. Also, if you are a candidate, one of the things you might consider doing is endorsing -other- candidates. Under the proportional representation system we're using, if your supporters all vote for you as their first choice, and Fred as their second choice, and then you are elected, your excess votes will be transferred to Fred. So urging voters to list Fred's name after yours, increases Fred's chances of winning without decreasing yours. (Unless you make such a good case for Fred that people switch to listing him ahead of you!) If you are a voter, you might consider joining the r6rs-discuss mailing list (http://lists.r6rs.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/r6rs-discuss), or at least keeping an eye on its archive for the next couple of weeks. - Alan _______________________________________________ r6rs-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.r6rs.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/r6rs-discuss
