I won't repeat my steering committee nominee statement. You can read it
here: http://www.r6rs.org/steering-committee/election/nominees.html#mfeeley
  .

The steering committee will take on the responsibility of moving
Scheme forward. Quite literally what Scheme is will be in their hands
for the foreseeable future, even if others will surely be involved at
various levels. This election is of critical importance to all those
deeply interested in Scheme's continuation. For this reason I want
members of the steering committee to be strong believers in the ideals
of Scheme, so that Scheme's soul and identity can be preserved. I
also want steering committee members to have good knowledge of the
language design issues and of the Scheme sub communities. Charisma,
impartiality and open-mindedness are essential for any hope of
bringing community support behind the new standard. And that's
very dear to me.

With those qualities in mind my votes will most likely go to

- Olin Shivers
- Chris Hanson
- Jonathan Rees
- Kent Dybvig

I'm confident they will do a great job to come up with a process which
will advance the standardization of Scheme while staying true to its
ideals. They have expert knowledge of the issues, they have shown
exceptional language design taste in the past, they are well
respected, they are committed to the task and I think they will work
together harmoniously.

Let me finish by stressing the importance of a committee whose members
work well together (which does not imply they have the same thoughts,
rather that they are open-minded and respectful of others). When I
was serving on the R6RS editors committee as editor-in-chief I
witnessed several conflicts which contributed in derailing the design
process. In total four editors resigned including myself. I cannot
speak for the others, but I resigned due to a conflict which could not
be resolved to my satisfaction and which caused too much grief for me
to tolerate at that point in my life. I hope this is not viewed as a
lack of commitment to the advancement of Scheme. In any case I am
very motivated to participate once again in the process.

Marc
