I have not really dealt with the different versions of Java, but I can tell you the CLR does not really have this problem. The Compact Framework, is a subset of the normal framework, simply missing functions and classes, not different names or namespaces. I was also not really referring to the different versions, but different runtime profiles (specifically as mentioned in the appendix of the CLR spec, EMCA 335).
