It's interesting to contrast this with mathematics, where not only
case is used to distinguish between variables, but font as well. In
writing, it's considered bad form to start a sentence with a symbol,
so the case issue is avoided. For speaking, mathematicians are used
to having to write statements out for their audience.

Admittedly, we're discussing a programming language, but you did
bring up mathematics earlier....
