John Cowan quoting Vincent Manis:
> > in a Philip K Dick story who discovers that not only is the universe
> > unreal, but so too is the character him/herself.
>
> If he's not real, how can he know if the universe is real or not?

In P K Dick novels such as "The Man in the High Castle"
and "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", the character
does not *know* his universe is real or unreal. What
matters is that the character begins to *doubt* whether
his previous assumptions about reality and his identity
are true. For Dick characters, that feeling is usually
set aside (but not resolved) under pressure of urgent
new events. For Dick readers, however, the feeling may
persist.
