Chez Scheme, which is one of the few Schemes to currently have native  
threading, provides thread local parameters for controlling the level of  
sharing data accross threads. Combined with regular parameters, this makes  
life much easier. Programming for concurrency is still harder than it has  
to be, but all the basics are available.
