Or maybe we want the values, and don't care about the *list* at all, and  
as such the *list* is superfluous to our original goal of grabbing the two  
values and examining them for use immediately? If we want to store them,  
of course we can package them, but it is a mistake, IMO, to assume that  
everyone wants to store these values, since the normal usages I can see  
 from them is not storing them.
