Those are menu items that DrRacket updates via a callback that happens when you click on the menubar, something that has been problematic in the past. I could change DrRacket to avoid doing the update at that time, if that's necessary.
The "open recent" submenu in the "file" menu also does stuff like that, but it follows up the changes with a callback to repeat them because that one seems to be more problematic than the changes that happen to the View menu. Do you see reasonable content in the "open recent" menu item? ANd if not, what happens if you open and close a new window and then check again?
