I'll give this another shot. :-)
A while back I had asked if anyone knew how to implement a check to see
if a user's shell was listed in /etc/shells. I stated that I could
probably hack together something, but I was looking for an existing
solution. Well, I've finally started to look at writing some code, but
it seems to me as though this should be a standard feature of AuthUNIX.pm
or AuthSYSTEM.pm. Checking /etc/shells is pretty standard in most unix
authentication systems.
-jcp, trying to avoid saying "I'm lazy. Write it for me."
