Good morning Hack Manhattan Amateur Radio community,

I hope you are doing well and that you had an enjoyable summer!

Ham radio operators are needed for the NYC Marathon on Sunday November 1,
2015 and I'm recruiting a team for Mile 15, just south of the Queensboro
Plaza subway station in Long Island City.

*What are the responsibilities of NYC Marathon Ham Radio Operators? *

Stationed every block or so along the mile-long stretch between Mile 15 and
15.5, we are the eyes and ears of the course and assist runners who might
need medical assistance. We also report runners who opt out of the race to
net control in Central Park.

In the case that a runner does need to go to the medical tent, we call via
simplex to the medical tent and guide them there. Most often runners are
suffering from cramps or tight muscles.

*Why should I help? *

It is, quite simply, a fun and easy way of giving back. Ham radio operators
have been a part of the NYC Marathon for a very long time and we help to
carry that tradition forward.

*What the hours? *

The day at Mile 15 begins at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until approximately 3:30
p.m..

*What do I get? *

You get a course access race credential, a NYC Marathon windbreaker, a
t-shirt and a hat. Plus the appreciation of thousands of runners who know
you're there to help them if needed.

*What the hours? *

The day at Mile 15 begins at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until approximately 3:30
p.m..

*How do I get there? *

>From Columbia - take the M60 LGA express bus to Astoria - then the N train
to Queensboro Plaza.
The 7, N, R, M, E trains are within a block or two of Mile 15.

*What will I need to bring? *

You'll need a 2m/440 HT with a spare battery or two along with your
license, water, snacks and warm clothing/rain gear as necessitated by the
weather.

*I'm interested - what do I need to do next? *

Please email me and I'll guide you through next steps - the race credential
application must be completed by Saturday.

*What if I have questions? *

Please feel free to email or call me! Thank you for taking the time to
consider joining the NYC Marathon Mile 15 Team!

Warm regards,

Norm Sutaria
