Hello Everyone:

On behalf of The Things Network NY City <https://thethings.nyc/> I would
like to extend an invitation to join The Things Network Community Meetup
<http://www.meetup.com/The-Things-Network-NYC-Community-Meetup/>. We are
dedicated to expanding The Things Network, a global, crowdsourced, open,
free and decentralized internet of things network, operating on the
(unlicensed) ISM 900MHZ band.

A major part of our effort to expand coverage is to deploy gateways. If you
like to tinker with hardware like me (old-time Ham), you might find these
little radios interesting. Here's a good FAQ Semtech LoRa FAQ -
Informative <http://www.semtech.com/wireless-rf/lora/LoRa-FAQs.pdf>

At the moment I have a Multitech Gateway
<http://www.multitech.com/brands/multiconnect-conduit> at my home in Boerum
Hill Brooklyn, with an L-com 900Mhz Omni Antenna
<http://www.l-com.com/wireless-antenna-900-mhz-8-dbi-omnidirectional-antenna>
on
the roof. The coverage is OK for the neighborhood, better height can cover
square miles.

I've built a few nodes that are based on the HopeRF RFM95W
<http://www.hoperf.com/rf_transceiver/lora/RFM95W.html> and integrated with
ARM microcontrollers such as the Anarduino
<http://www.anarduino.com/miniwireless/> and working on adding a few
sensors for my pilot project.

I hope you can join us and get involved. Our RF knowledge is a great asset
for this project.

Best Regards
Manny Tsarnas - AA2XY
