In the SF Bay Area, the East Bay commute routes (in any direction) consistently rank near the top of the "Worst Commutes" lists the newspapers periodically prepare. And that's nothing new, it's been that way for a long while. Most people don't have to put up with quite as much abuse as the East Bay folks do.
