Thanks to all for the additional feedback. I did actually try running a copy of the server on this laptop, but, confirming garym's comments, it's problematic because there's a different iTunes library on it. (And while I could connect to the proper iTunes library over my LAN, I just feel like there are too many variables there; I'm fine with the regular Web remote created by the desktop's server.)
