In this case doing the text-to-AIFF on the Mac is easy. So no need for sound device kludgery.
This leaves the question of how to make SqueezeCenter play a file (that is not in the library) and then go back to whatever it was doing. Ideally go right back to the track position it was at in the current playlist. I vaguely remember someone tackling this part of the problem before, but a cursory look through the CLI API does not reveal a simple hook to do it all in one go.
