Intall erland's "custom clock" applet, and the related "helper" plugin. There is a whole thread on it in the forum, with various example screens. His applet allows you to replace the now playing screen with a custom one. That's what I use as my now playing screen on the Radio (it's also in the thread as an example you can try).
