There should have been a "Quick Start Guide" with the remote/battery that describes the opening of the remote and the removal of the clear protective cover over the remote battery. It also describes the insertion of the radio battery and placement of the connectors. It may have been left in the packaging. I am glad I helped you. The Squeezebox things are awesome!
