by the station, some phase effect ?

In the old days sound engineers actually checked (booth live and on
records) if the sound was "mono compatible" if it sounded reasonable ok
in mono to.

Meh nowadays one should probably be surprised if any sound engineer is
involved at all .

Some open source software and you have a radio station .
